Angelic Layer DVD Box Set

Angelic Layer... this is kind of an old anime, but still one of the best! I like reviewing older animes... I mean they're the reasons why I even continue buying new ones. Don't get me wrong I intend to review some newer anime as well, just going to have to see which ones really catches my eye. Ok, now back to this anime "Angelic Layer", it's really interesting actually, it's about a girl who just moved to tokyo and discovers that everyone there plays with this robot/doll/game called "Angelic Layer" where you have to control their every move with your mind, consider it a reality 3D game. And soons she enters into a tournament and surprisingly does very well for a newbie and gets plenty of recognition. Along the way she even encounter some friends who helps her and teaches her the ropes. This is absolutely a well written and well drawn anime. Therefore, I highly recommend it to all anime lovers. The Devil Within Manga

The Devil Within?... notice the title has a question mark? Yeah that's kind of a hint for this plot. This story is basically about a girl who hates/dislike boys because she thinks that they are all devils, of course in her case she didn't mean it literally, until... her dad forced her to choose a husband out of three handsome looking boys who ironically are real angels. And here's the big spoiler, it turns out that she's the real devil who needs to choose one of the guys to marry and mate, otherwise.... Ok, no more spoilers, if you want to find out, you'll just have to read it yourself. This manga ends at volume 2, it's short but still entertaining. Absolute Boyfriend Manga + Japanese TV Series

I was a little skeptical about buying this manga when it first came out, but once I read it I just couldn't put it down and anxiously waited for the next volume to come out. That's another thing I hate, having to wait and wait just to find out what happens next. It's like you're in the middle of watching a movie and just when it's the most important scene, it stops.. and you're like what? wait happens next? Right, don't you just hate that? So I usually like waiting for the whole set to come out first before I purchase it, whether it's dvds or books. Which by the way this manga ends at volume 6. Short but still so good. It's about a teenage girl who keeps getting rejected by guys and one day accidently buys a "Night Lover" robot home. He seems to be everything she ever wanted in a guy but the only thing is, can this be real love? After all he is just a robot.. isn't he? He might be programmed to love her, cook for her, clean for her, even serve her as an personal sex lover (don't worry this isn't an adult book)... but is it possible that with or without these programs that maybe he's doing all this on his own? Could a robot really feel and understand the meaning of love? And can she really afford him? I mean he is a robot and robots don't come cheap nowadays. Not only that what about her best friend who lives next door to her? Can he continue to hide his feelings for her? And finally who will she end up with? Now doesn't this manga sound exciting or what? I did my best writing down all the main plots of this manga, as for the rest you'll just have to find out if you do decide to pick this manga up. All I can say is.. it's so good that they made it into a Japanese TV show almost immediately. It's pretty much the same, the only difference is the main characters aren't teenagers and instead are adults working in an office. And the best friend isn't her neighbor, he's her boss. But other then that everything else is pretty much still the same. She still has to work, work, work, in order to pay for him. Happy Hustle High Manga

Get ready girls, school just went co-ed! Well that's one of the plots of this story. A tough girl who can pretty much handle herself meets her match when her school decides to go co-ed with some of the hottest guys around. And one of them seems to hate girls? Or does he? In short Girls vs. Boys or can they learn to play nice and perhaps... maybe even find love along the way? My explanation of this manga probably isn't that good, but believe it or not that's what the storyline is mainly about. Yes, I know it sounds kind of cliche.. but it's a pretty entertaining manga, at least it kept me reading and guessing on what'll happen next. So to all those girls out there, try picking up this manga. This manga ends at volume 5.

Ultra Cute Manga

This manga is good, but not one of my favorites. It's pretty much about these two girls who are supposingly to be rivals but at the same time, they are each other's best friend and their main focus is trying to beat each other at everything and out shine each other, with their cuteness, style of fashion... and of course who gets a boyfriend first. Surprisingly they both have their eyes on two of the hottest and cutest boys who also happen to be players. What you need to find out is can two girls really fall in love with two players? The main plot is about girls falling in love and the importance of friendship. It's not a bad manga, it's just that I'm not exactly a big fan of the girly girly stuff. Overall I still recommend it. This manga ends at volume 9.

Newtype vs. PiQ

Remember "Newtype"? It was this awesome magazine filled with reviews of the newest anime, mangas, events and all other anime related stuff, along with a free sample of anime shows, free posters, postcards, stickers and etc.. It was a magazine that "ADV Films" bought the rights to from Japan and translated it into the english version for US. I use to buy this magazine every single month, even my friend knew what a big fan I was and would call me up, asking me If I had already bought the newest issue and if not she'll buy it for me. That's how much I loved it. When I started reading this magazine I was still a newbie to anime, that's why I relied mostly on this magazine to keep me posted on what's the newest anime and manga. Before this came out I was kind of clueless on which anime I should buy and which one not to waste my time or money on. The good thing about it is, they don't tell you their opinion, instead they tell you the storyline and all the details that are needed for you to judge on your own. And that's very important to me, since everyone has different opinion to practically everything. For example, one time I read this review on the internet about how good a certain anime was (which I'll leave blank), so I went ahead and bought it, saw a few episodes and was bored outta my mind. Don't you just hate that? Therefore, you can understand why this magazine was my absolute favorite.

That's why I was so disappointed when I heard that "ADV Films" stopped buying the rights to this magazine and instead, started their very own called "PiQ". Stupidly I thought it'll be the same and bought myself the first issue that came out. Not only was it not the same but it was horrible. It mainly focused on "Sci-Fi" shows and movies, they barely had any articles regarding about anime. And "ADV Films" dare to say that this new magazine of theirs will be better than before, what lies! All I can say is, what a waste of my $5.99

Pretear DVD Box Set + Manga

"Pretear" aka "The New Legend of Snow White" is probably the anime version of "Snow White". It revolves around a young teenage girl name Himeno, whose mother passed away and lives with her father and his new wife, and his wife's two daughters (hint: her step-sisters). Feeling neglected at home she stumbles upon these "Leafe Knights" who claim that she is the new "Pretear", the chosen one who can save the world from "Princess of Disaster" (the previous "Pretear", who turned evil). Himeno, can transform into a different "Pretear" with different powers every time she unites with a different "Leafe Knight", learning about all this she had a hard time accepting this as reality especially when one of the Leafe Knight, Hayate treats her with coldness, refusing to accept her as the new "Pretear", but at the same time not able to neglect his duties to protect her. As time goes by they grown to respect each other and perhaps... love each other? If you like romantic anime like me, you'll like this one. The story also teaches a very valuable lesson.. from importance of family as well as the importance of life. Once I knew this anime was coming out on DVD, I got it the minute it came out. Fruits Basket... I actually watched the anime first way before I even started reading the manga. And I have to say this was such a sweet anime, when I watched it I just couldn't stop. Tohru whose mother had just passed away, didn't have anywhere to live so she lived in a tent all by herself in the woods which happens to be property of the Sohma family. When her classmate the handsome prince Yuki Sohma found out, offered her to stay at his house where he and his cousin Shigure lives. However once she moved in she discovered their secret... they turn into their zodiac animal form when they are hugged by the opposite sex. And later on Kyo who is also one of the zodiac starts living there as well under orders from Akito, the head of the Sohma family. So one by one Tohru, discovers each and every one of the Sohma family's animal form as they keep transforming in front of her. Tohru is a sweet girl who is just grateful at the fact that she has somewhere to live and that the Sohma family trusts her with this secret. And it seems both Yuki and Kyo have a liking to Tohru. Yuki who transforms into a mouse is quiet, sweet, gentle and serious. While Kyo who transforms into a cat is out-going, rude and mean. Kyo constantly challenges Yuki to fight him, always holding a grudge against him because of what the zodiac mouse did to the zodiac cat.. and the only thing they seem to agree on is Tohru. It seems as though the only time they would get along is when they're around Tohru. I have to say as much as I love this anime, I didn't like the ending much because it never said which one she liked. But overall this is a great anime, which is why I truly recommend it to all anime lovers. This anime is 26 episodes long. Ranma ½ DVD Seasons 1-7 + OVA + Movies Box Sets

Ranma ½.. now this is an old old anime that I also use to watch when I was a little girl. My mom use to rent it for me, but it was the chinese version. So watching it now with japanese audio and english subtitles is completely different for me. By the way I would just like to say that when I watch anime, taiwanese series, japanese series or korean series.. I would only watch it with the original audio and english subtitles. Because let's face it, it's just not the same when it's dub, at least not to me. Anyway, back to this anime... Ranma is a boy who happens to turn into a girl when he touches cold water and turns back into a boy when he touches hot water. His father is also somewhat similar to him, only difference is he turns into a panda bear instead of a girl. How did this happen? let's just say a bizarre accident when they were training in china. When Ranma returned to japan with his father that was when he found out that he actually had a fiancee name Akane, whose father is bestfriends with Ranma's father. Of course they both objected to this in the beginning, but later on you'll notice their change of attitude towards each other, especially when both of them have friends of the opposite sex who are determine to break them apart. Each episode is absolutely cute and hilarious. Even when I watch it now I can't stop laughing. This anime has 7 seasons dvd set, 1 OVA and 1 movie box set.. which you can find @ Website: http://www.discountanimedvd.com/ as of now they're selling it for $32.49 for each season which is the cheapest that I can find, just make sure you're not buying the "import" version.

Sailor Moon DVD Seasons 1 & 2 Uncut Box Sets

Alright to start off.. I would like to introduce some of my all time favorite animes and of course the very first one goes to "Sailor Moon". I practically grew up watching this anime. Every morning I would wake up extra early just to watch the dub version on channel 11, well either that or tape it. Serena and the rest of the sailor scouts were probably the only female superhero cartoons during that time that little girls like us could idolize. Because let's face it majority of the cartoons then were either "Batman", "Superman", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" or "Power Rangers". But yes, this was definitely one of my favorite anime. Each character had their own different personality and style.. such as Serena (Usagi) "Sailor Moon" everyone knew she was the ditzy leader, Amy (Ami) "Sailor Mars" she was the sweet and smart one, Ray (Rei) "Sailor Mars" she was the serious one, Lita (Makoto) "Sailor Jupiter" she was the strong and tough one and Mina (Minako) "Sailor Venus" now her... I would like to think she was a little of everything, they never quite expressed what her personality was. There was also Serena's love interest, Darien (Mamoru) "Tuxedo Mask", in the beginning of the show you would see that he loves teasing Serena, but as the show progresses, they start remembering about their past love life. In this show they also had a bunch of bad guys who would summon all kinds of different monsters to drain energy from the humans, and it seems that every season the sailor girls would have a different transformation and power. Ok, enough about this I'm sure after all these years you guys would know what "Sailor Moon" was about, but if not too bad because these two dvd sets are no longer on sale.

New York Anime Festival 2008 Coming Soon!

For my very first entry, I'm extremely happy to annouce that "The New York Anime Festival 2008" will be coming soon in September. I went to last years and it was my very first time going to an anime convention, but let me tell you it was the grestest ever!! Not only did I get a bunch of free stuff, but every booth had something for me to buy it was like walking into dreamland for me. And I can never forget the cosplay, it was just awesome.
